GOOD REASONS TO VISIT STANTHORPE...
Are you tired of traffic, tired of the heat and humidity, tired of the hustle and bustle of city living? Escape all of that and visit us!
Stanthorpe is about 2˝ hours from Brisbane, situated on the ‘Granite Belt’ in the high country of south east Queensland. We are about 3000 feet above sea level, which means fresh air, cool nights, log fires, white frosts, sunny days, four distinct seasons and of course, the best climate for growing wine grapes, olives, stonefruit, apples & pears, berries, lavender and roses!
We are Queensland’s premier wine region and boast over 50 wineries, from very small boutique wineries to larger, long established wineries, each offering their own very special ‘drop’!

AUSSIE UTE HISTORY MEETS ART NEAR CONDO...
Come travel Australia is a proud supporter of the Utes in the Paddock Project at Burrawang West Station near Condoblin in New South Wales.
In the heart of Lachlan River country at the geographic centre of New South Wales, a dynamic celebration of Australia’s outback culture is building momentum. Residents around the central west town of Condobolin are buzzing about a quirky project developing on a nearby station. Iconic model Holden utes are taking on new life as part of an ambitious artists’ tribute to life in the outback.
“Utes in the Paddock” is the brainchild of Graham and Jana Pickles, graziers whose passion for the outback led them to start a Dorper Sheep Stud on their historic cattle station Burrawang West at Ootha near Condobilin. Along with Mike Taylor from Taylors Auto Centre, they have now put 15 iconic Aussie Utes in place!

PETERSBURG, SA - A FRIENDLY PLACE WITH TONS OF HISTORY...
Peterborough, (or Petersburg as it was known until 1918) was settled to service the agricultural and pastoral endeavours of the 1870s. There are two theories as to how the town got its name. One is that it was named after Mr Peter Doecke, the original owner of the land on which the town was built. The other, that it was named after 'Peters Store', the first General Store in town.
The Railways, which would provide the lifeblood of the town for the next 110 years officially arrived in the town January 17, 1881 when the line from Jamestown opened. The Terowie line opened shortly after and the line to Broken Hill was opened in 1887 thus ensuring the future of the town. This meant that Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Adelaide and the Silverton Mines were all connected by rail tracks that passed through Peterborough. Thus Peterborough became a Hub of the Transport and Farming Industries in South Australia.
Today there are plenty of places tovisit and relive this past! The recently upgraded Steamtown Rail Museum, the wonderfully crafted Meldonfield Miniatures, The Motorcycle Museum and be sure to find out about "Bob the Railway Dog!"
