Quorn

Population 1450.

Quorn is situated in the Southern Flinders Ranges 40km north east of Port Augusta.

Originally a very busy railway settlement established in 1875, on what was to become the Ghan Railway Line, Quorn has many wonderful links to its heritage. The beautiful historic buildings show a direct connection with Quorns steam heritage. The grand Quorn Railway Station, completed in 1916, is now the place to step into the past and ride the Pichi Richi Railway. The local hotels are a sure sign of a once prosperous and populous railway town, The Austral, The Transcontinental and The Criterion and The Grand Junction, still service the locals and travellers alike.

As a base for exploring the Southern Flinders Ranges, Quorn is an excellent choice. All the modern facilities are available to make Your stay perfect. Within a short drive are a large number of wonderful places to visit. Take a trip on the Pichi Richi Railway to Woolshed Flat or through to Port Augusta.

South of Quorn is the beautifulRichman Valley, including Waukarie Falls and Devils Peak. From the Richman Valley it is possible to access Mount Brown Conservation Park and walk the Mount Brown Conservation Park Summit Hike.

West of Quorn is Dutchmans Stern Conservation Park, Warren Gorge, Buckaringa Gorge, and Middle Gorge. Further along this road are Proby's Grave and Simmonston.

Heading north of Quorn towards Hawker takes the traveller across the Willocra Plains, passed the sites of Willochra, Gordon, Kanyaka Homestead Ruins, Wilson, and Yourambulla Caves. Beyond Hawker is the world famous Wilpena Pound.
